In the heart of El Centenario community is a town square with limitless potential. At this time the space is in dire need of both physical and financial investment. The goal of Revitalize Centenario is to support our local government and community by raising funds to help improve this existing area, as well as facilitating community service through volunteers, thus creating valuable partnerships within all our neighbourhoods.
Phase One (completed!) of the Revitalize Centenario plan is to fundraise and purchase playground equipment. The current playground has a metal slide and a swing set that is often not functioning. New playground equipment has been selected and will have the functionality for expansion as additional funds are raised. In addition during the first phase the government will include outdoor fitness equipment, refurbish ball courts, repairing fencing, lighting installation, park benches and green space.
Phase Two will focus on a Community Garden with accompanying education that will include recycling, composting, as well as nutrition.
Phase Three includes an off leash dog park. A common concern among our community members is animal welfare and safety. A dog park will serve as a safe setting for people to exercise their pets and also a means to promote pet health care (sterilization clinics, dog training, rescue, foster, adoption).
You may be thinking…”where is this town square?”. It is one block off the highway and also houses the police station, SAPA, and not one, but TWO public libraries (a beautiful children's library as well as a general library that has meeting space and a computer lab). Across the street on one side is a soccer field, across another street is the Church, and to the other side the kindergarten campus. On a “typical” evening you may find a soccer match, pick up basketball, zumba and perhaps a traditional dance class at the church.
Revitalize Centenario wants to capitalize on the existing space by improving the facilities while encouraging more activities and cross cultural community services.
